The Right Makeup For Being 40 And Fabulous
In the makeup of a mature face two major principles have to be respected: avoiding the shiny eye shadow and the blind foundation.
The makeup of the eye lids has to be blind because shiny eye shadows have the predisposition of gathering in the creases of the eye lids.
As the colors are concerned, [...]

eco-style sanitizers from jamar labs

I’m not a fan of hand sanitizers or antibacterial products because most of them contain some pretty toxic chemicals (studies have actually shown that washing your hands with plain old soap does the same job). I normally steer clear of germ-fighting products but it seems like everyone is getting sick (me included) and I suddenly found myself wondering if hand sanitizer wasn’t such a bad idea after all. I was close to buying something whenl I received a fabulous alternative from Jamar Labs.
Made in Israel of 100% natural cotton, Jamar Labs has created a line of paraben and phalate-free cleansing wipes that work from head to toe. Believing that “Life is too short to worry about your flip flop feet,” they’ve harnessed the powers of botanicals to sanitize and soothe. wipe your feet wipes are made with eucalyptus, plant-based Vitamin B and menthol to moisturize, deodorize and soothe. I loved the idea. Los Angeles has barely caught on to the fact it’s autumn and I’m still in sandals.
wipe your face cloths are perfect when you’re too tired to take off makeup or whenever you want to hydrate and refresh your face. They’re made with soothing aloe, coconut-derived cleanser, almond oils and chamomile for its antibacterial properties. Most refreshing part (no pun intended) is that they lack synthetic fragrances and parabens I find in most face wipes. Perfect to keep in a bedside drawer or on hand to fix a makeup mishap.
I have wipe your hands in my bag now. They’re made with Vitamin E, lavender, coconut-derived cleanser and chamomile. So you can wipe away germs without the skin stripping effect of so many sanitizers. Wipe away bacteria but hold onto moisturize. It’s brilliant. They’re great for all ages and perfect to throw in diaper bags and gym bags, too.
While I’m not hyper-vigilant about germs, this flu season seems to have already hit and anything I can do to keep away from it, the better. Added bonus to the convenience factor is fantastic eco-responsible. When I’m done I can flush them or toss them knowing they’re 100% biodegradable. The 30-pack sets ($7.95) are perfect for work and home, and the convenient 5-pack sets ($1.95) are great to throw in your purse or glove compartment, too.
Shop online at www.jamarlabs.com to purchase the wipes in both sizes as well as combo packs. xo alex.
Airbrush Make-up Is All You Need to Look Perfect
The art of make-up may look a bit too precious to many of us. We watch celebrities glow at important mundane events for hours and wonder how on earth they manage to look so glamorous and natural at the same time. The secret is in the quality of their make-up and, of course, in the technique used to apply make-up on their face and neck.
You should keep in mind that Airbrush Make-up is not for celebrities only. Anyone who has had the chance of using this type of make-up a few times already knows that getting a perfect face is no rocket science if you have the right tools. Buying no-name make-up at the corner shop will never allow you to improve the look of your face to the standards that film and music stars do, but Airbrush Make-up will certainly provide the perfection we are all looking for.
The difference between professional make-up and ordinary make-up available at the super market is that the former looks a lot better and also lasts longer on your face. Isn’t this what you really want? What is the use of spending time in front of the mirror if your masterpiece goes to the dogs a couple of hours later? No woman dreams of becoming Cinderella again when the clock strikes midnight.
Professional Airbrush Make-up will never burden your skin, make it look artificial or damage it in any way. Once you have applied it, you will have a natural-looking face wherever you go, whether it is a fancy dinner party, a night out or an important business meeting. Quality and comfort are the key words to keep in mind with Airbrush Make-up, for both glamour and natural styles. http://www.palazah.com
Some may say that the price also makes a difference when it comes to high-quality make-up; this is true, but hardly a reason to overlook the marvelous instant (as well as long-lasting) effects of the professional kind. Besides, you may find discount Airbrush make-up if you know where to look for it; online stores offer more discounts than regular shops and you will also be able to avoid the shipping fees in many of them.
It is not difficult to find a great outfit to wear on a special occasion, or the appropriate accessories to match it. Yet, a face, no matter how beautiful and fresh-looking requires more attention than the body. Each and every element of your face must get its share of attention for the whole to look perfect. A natural foundation to cover any imperfections of the skin, adequate eye-shadow to match the color of your eyes or your outfit, nourishing lipstick for the comfort of your lips, high-quality mascara to enhance the beauty of your eye-lashes and many other tricks that a woman should know about will bring the youthful glow back to your face even on rainy days. With Airbrush Make-up you can have all this in an instant.
An interesting thing about Airbrush make-up is that anyone can learn how to use it properly in a very short time. Top-notch products are very easy to use as their composition makes them adhere perfectly to the skin, as if they had sprung from it instead of having been applied to it. This is what makes them preferable to no-name products in spite of their price. But, again, we must remember the regular offers available for such products in online stores and the possibility to purchase great discount Airbrush make-up, Natural skin care products and Vivant products once in a while. Those who are familiar with online shopping know that visiting these stores on a regular basis can bring really nice bargains to those interested.

The use of moisturizers as an integral component of topical therapy for rosacea: clinical results based on the Assessment of Skin Characteristics Study.
Cutis. 2009 Aug; 84(2): 72-6
Del Rosso JQ
Skin care regimens have been recommended in conjunction with topical medications for the treatment of rosacea. Specifically, a mild cleanser and a moisturizer can help relieve symptoms and maintain skin barrier integrity. The Assessment of Skin Characteristics Study, a multicenter open-label study (N=102), compared the use of a specified skin care regimen with or without the moisturizer component. Participants used a facial cleanser immediately before application of azelaic acid (AzA) gel 15% twice daily to both sides of the face and then applied the provided moisturizer to the right side of the face only. Scores for severity and duration of stinging, burning, tingling, and itching were recorded in the morning and evening for 7 days. Cumulative symptom scores (CSSs) decreased on the right side of the face with facial moisturizer applied.

Regulation of tissue homeostasis by NF-kappaB signalling: implications for inflammatory diseases.
Nat Rev Immunol. 2009 Nov; 9(11): 778-88
Pasparakis M
The nuclear factor-kappaB (NF-kappaB) signalling pathway regulates immune responses and is implicated in the pathogenesis of many inflammatory diseases. Given the well established pro-inflammatory functions of NF-kappaB, inhibition of this pathway would be expected to have anti-inflammatory effects. However, recent studies in mouse models have led to surprising and provocative results, as NF-kappaB inhibition in epithelial cells resulted in the spontaneous development of severe chronic inflammatory conditions. These findings indicate that NF-kappaB signalling acts in non-immune cells to control the maintenance of tissue immune homeostasis. This Review discusses the mechanisms by which NF-kappaB activity in non-immune cells regulates tissue immune homeostasis and prevents the pathogenesis of inflammatory diseases.

Investigation of the anti-inflammatory potential of Aloe vera gel (97.5%) in the ultraviolet erythema test.
Skin Pharmacol Physiol. 2008; 21(2): 106-10
Reuter J, Jocher A, Stump J, Grossjohann B, Franke G, Schempp CM
BACKGROUND: Aloe vera is a natural product that is frequently used in soothing skin care products such as aftersun lotions. In the present study we aimed to explore the anti-inflammatory potential of a highly concentrated A. vera gel in the UV erythema test in vivo. METHODS: 40 volunteers with skin types II and III were included in the randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, phase III monocenter study. Test areas on the back were irradiated with the 1.5-fold minimal erythema dose of UVB. Subsequently, the test areas were treated occlusively on 2 subsequent days with A. vera gel (97.5%), the positive controls (0.25% prednicarbate, 1% hydrocortisone in placebo gel and 1% hydrocortisone cream) and a placebo gel. Erythema values were determined photometrically after 24 and 48 h. RESULTS: A. vera gel (97.5%) significantly reduced UV-induced erythema after 48 h, being superior to 1% hydrocortisone in placebo gel. In contrast, 1% hydrocortisone in cream was more efficient than A. vera gel. CONCLUSIONS: In this study after 48 h the A. vera gel (97.5%) displayed some anti-inflammatory effects superior to those of 1% hydrocortisone in placebo gel. The A. vera gel tested here might be useful in the topical treatment of inflammatory skin conditions such as UV-induced erythema.

Vintage Hairstyles of the Rich and Famous
From Amy Winehouse’s humongous beehive, to Marilyn Monroe’s gorgeous golden locks, we just can’t get enough of celebrities and their vintage hairstyles.
How do they pull them off without looking as though they have been dragged through a hedge backwards? How did they come up with these original ideas? Just how many hours did their stylists spend making them look a million dollars? Vintage hairstyles are fascinating.
For years we have been utterly transfixed by the glamorous vintage hairstyles of our classy role models such as Marilyn Monroe and Audrey Hepburn. Those fantastic blonde curly locks that Marilyn modeled inspired us all in the 50s. While brave Audrey pushed all the boundaries with her short and jagged tresses. Then came the big bouffant styles of the 60s, followed by the thick and full styles of the 70s and 80s. So what do we notice about hair fashion? It all goes around in circles! Amy Winehouse rocks the classic beehive that is inspiring teens all over the world, and with stars such as Victoria Beckham and Rihanna chopping their long locks into short snappy styles; an old trend is reformed and reshaped.
Some would say that our GHD straighteners, blow dryers and expensive salon products are our hair saviors, without which we could not create those wonderful dos. But how did they manage to concoct high maintenance hairstyles in the 50s and 60s? Uncomfortable nights sleeping whilst wearing hair rollers and pins were used to create those tight curls and it was popular to have thick “bangs” cut to create a more edgy style. From there the groovy swingin’ 60s took over with huge fashion inspiring stars such as Twiggy parading her ultra short crop and the mop haired Beatles. With the 60s influence also came funky accessories such as multicolored headscarves, Alice bands and brightly colored flower power clips.
After the swingin’ 60s came the punkish short spikey hairstyles of the 70s that were all the rage, this era also came with some very bizarre fashion trends! Remember the very slick inspirations from the glorious movie musical “Grease” featuring style legends of the time, John Travolta and Olivia Newton John. In this era, the only hair tool you needed was a big fat tub of hair gel.
The 80s continued the punkish theme, but brought along it is own styles of thick and feathered looks. Some of the style legends of this time include Michael Jackson, who modeled the trendy “Jheri curl” and Cindy Lauper who told us “Girls just wanna have fun”, especially when dying their hair all sorts of vibrant colors as she did.
From here, hair fashion has developed into a more sophisticated, straight and sleek trend but with curly hair also still firmly holding its place as a timeless hair trend. The availability of hair straighteners, blow dryers, curling tongs, rollers, clips, accessories and highly trained hairdressers has allowed us all to develop our own hairstyles but celebrities such as Amy Winehouse and Dita Von Teese strive to model the vintage hairstyles but with their own modern twists.
Treatment of cutaneous tumors with topical 5% imiquimod cream.
Clinics (Sao Paulo). 2009; 64(10): 961-6
Alessi SS, Sanches JA, de Oliveira WR, Messina MC, Pimentel ER, Festa Neto C
INTRODUCTION: There are various approaches to the treatment of cutaneous tumors; one of them is treatment with imiquimod, a synthetic toll-like receptor agonist with a low molecular weight that offers a topical, noninvasive, and non-surgical therapeutic option. The main objective of our study was to provide data on 89 patients who used a 5% imiquimod cream for the treatment of cutaneous tumors at the Cutaneous Oncology Group of the Dermatology Department of Hospital das Clinicas from 2003 to 2008. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Here, we present our experience in the treatment of 123 cutaneous tumors of various types, including basal cell carcinoma (BCC), squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), Bowen’s disease, erythroplasia of Queyrat, Paget’s disease, and trichoepithelioma, with 5% imiquimod cream from 2003 to 2008 in the Cutaneous Oncology Group of the Dermatology Department of Hospital das Clinicas. Patients were divided into two separate groups according to their diagnosis and comorbidities; these comorbidities included epidermodysplasia verruciformis, xeroderma pigmentosum, albinism, basal cell nevus syndrome, Brooke-Spiegler syndrome, HIV, chronic lymphocytic leukemia, B-cell lymphoma, and kidney transplantation. Treatment duration, response to imiquimod, follow-up, recurrence, and local and systemic reactions associated with use of the drug were analyzed. Epidemiological data were obtained and cure rates were calculated. RESULTS: The ratio of women to men was 1.28:1, and the mean age was 63.1 years. Tumors were located mainly on the face, back, trunk, and legs. For patients with comorbidities, the overall cure rate was 38%. These specific patients demonstrated cure rates of 83.5% for superficial BCC and 50% for Bowen’s disease. Aggressive BCC and superficial and nodular BCC did not present a good response to treatment. Trichoepitheliomas and nodular BCC showed a partial response, and erythroplasia of Queyrat showed a complete response. For patients without comorbidities, the overall cure rate was 73%. For these patients, the cure rates were 85.7% for superficial and nodular BCC, 88% for superficial BCC, 57% for Bowen’s disease, 50% for nodular BCC, and 50% for aggressive BCC. One SCC lesion demonstrated a complete response, and tumors caused by Paget’s disease and erythroplasia of Queyrat presented a partial response. None of the tumors considered as clinically cured recurred. Thirty-seven lesions demonstrated no response to imiquimod. Having a cutaneous comorbidity, high-risk tumors such as mixed aggressive BCC (sclerodermiform or micronodular), nodular BCC, or Bowen’s disease, and presenting no local reaction to imiquimod were considered as risk factors for a worse prognosis. We demonstrate that patients with no response to imiquimod, even when they demonstrated no local reaction, can undergo another cycle of six weeks of imiquimod treatment and show a complete response. The healing pattern led to good cosmetic outcomes, and the side effects were tolerable. CONCLUSIONS: Our experience confirms imiquimod as an effective treatment option for several types of cutaneous tumors, especially in patients without the cutaneous comorbidities cited above and with low-risk tumors. Imiquimod has a relatively low cost compared to other therapeutic options and can be delivered via ambulatory care to patients with surgery contraindications, and its side effects are tolerable.
