Beauty Benefits of Organic Virgin Coconut Oil
Organic Virgin Coconut Oil has many amazing health benefits. It is a fantastic addition to your diet and can also be used in your beauty/skincare routine. I like to use this as a moisturizer, hair treatment, and as an eye makeup remover.
You can get coconut oil at natural health food/vitamin stores. You can also buy it online. It is available at Amazon.com and Drugstore.com and probably many other places.
There are many websites that review the benefits of incorporating coconut oil into your health/beauty routines. Check out http://www.organicfacts.net/organic-oils/organic-coconut-oil/health-benefits-of-coconut-oil.html

Update: Moisture vs Moisturizing (Read More Info for Information Links)
I understand that I cannot just put oil in my hair to ‘moisturize’ it, but in order to lock in the moisture (water) I must seal it in with an oil or something, right? This this or that doesn’t moisturize got me totally twisted because when I think of the word moisturize when it comes to hair and skin, i think of what helps the skin/hair to retain moisture. What is water (moisture) without the lotion or oil or butter or creme

Dry hair is usually the hair that has not a sufficient amount of natural moisturizer and oil. This can be caused by over-exposure to the sun without protecting the hair, by excessive washing – especially with harsh chemical substances, excessive use of styling products and hot styling methods (blow drier, heat iron), excessive dying of the hair etc.
The solution rests in Natural moisturizers, such as natural oils, and nutritious remedies. The jojoba oil is much recommended for regaining the shine and brightness of your hair, as the molecular structure of this oil is almost similar to the one of sebum, the natural hair moisturizer. It can be used as an overnight as well as a daily treatment for the hair.
Other types of natural oils that provide moisture for your hair are: olive, ylang-ylang, almond, avocado, rosemary essential oil, wheat germ oil, emu oil, shea oil and herbal oils such as: nettle oil, plantain oil, burdock oil etc. These are very efficient, as they provide a wide range of nutrients, antioxidants and vitamins vital for the hair and scalp. You can also mix one of these oils with honey and then apply it as a mask for the hair.

Shea Butter and Other Natural Moisturizers
Instead, opt for something like organic shea butter. Full of healing properties, shea butter is one of the healthiest moisturizers for hair and skin alike. Jojoba or papaya oils are also very healthy and popular. You can also try ayurvedic oils found in health food shops and Indian beauty supply stores. Obviously, the texture of the hair is very different, but an ayurvedic-based hair oil will be natural and gentle enough for daily use and will promote softness and resiliency.
You can also moisturize straight from the kitchen cupboard. Coconut, olive, and safflower oils are excellent for the hair and skin. If you need to do a hot oil treatment once a week, try using one of these oils, gently heated in the microwave. Apply carefully from scalp to ends, wrap a towel around your head for about twenty minutes, and then rinse out using lukewarm water.
